June 15, 2005Kottke muses on various options for rural internet connectivity (dialup too slow?). I’d say one of the better options is GPRS over a GSM connection.
It’s as slow as dialup, but hey, that’s anywhere, anytime internet
(can’t beat that). Speeds are purportedly four times faster with EDGE.

I use a P800 while my wife has a new XDA IIs which we use to go online via Smart's GPRS. On the P800, service was ok, slightly faster than my regular dial-up actually. It was even faster on the IIs. It's great being connected almost anywhere.
