Podcasting Seminar at Friedrich Naumann Foundation

March 12, 2006

I was fortunate to have spent all day last Friday, March 10th, at the Philippine office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation on invitation by Dr. Ronald Meinardus to be the podcasting resource person for the foundation’s two-day seminar on blogging and podcasting (they had MLQIII and Yuga to talk on blogging on the 9th). I was there to share some basic technical aspects of podcasting, including recording, post-processing, and publishing. Of course, the content and advocacy part was largely the domain of Dr. Meinardus.

The participants were mostly from government, advocacy organizations, and media outfits, and all were pretty excited about blogging and podcasting, especially with the potentials as a tool for reaching out to their intended audience (or constituencies).

The entire afternoon was spent with participants doing some hands-on work with their very first podcasts. Everyone did well, considering the time constraints–we shared only one recording room! Tools used were quite basic, but effective, including the popular Audacity and LAME MP3 encoder softwares, and a mid-range “ideal for podcasting” microphone.

FNF Philippines actually has a podcast, the Liberal Times Manila Podcast, which has two episodes to date.

I posted some photos I took during the workshop on Flickr.

Finally, a pic of me with fellow problogger Abe (after all the EBs, meetups and drinking sessions, this is our first shot together!)

More photos here.

It was a fun and exciting activity. I hope I get to participate in more of these.
